Signals

These mic positions are available on ALL instruments except for Wanderlust.

Mix
A production-ready mix that provides a beautifully balanced sound suitable for all purposes.

Close
Close mics that capture the detail of each section. The close mics on the strings are pre-panned to achieve a completely natural stereo field.

Room
A balanced tree-style position kept in an identical placement for all instruments for a truly cohesive sound.

Gallery
A diffuse and airy position recorded in the ceiling of The Nave. Add this to the mix for natural depth and space.

Piano Mics
The piano has all the mics above but also adds a set of rear close mics on the soundboard and separate signals for the keys and sustain pedal.

Drum Mics
The drums have all the mics above as well as individual channels for Snare, Toms, Overheads and Kick. There is also a Parallel Compression mix which has been made using some analogue hardware to add some extra punch when you need it.

“The “Get Lost” feature is the most inspiring thing on any library ever. I cannot tell you how many Get Lost patches I’ve saved as presets in Lost Piano because they’re so cool. I’ve never felt more compelled to create than I do when I’m using yalls products. So incredibly well done, thank you for all of this!”

"I've been collecting old and unusual synths for a really long time. It's been great to explore what brand new sounds we could create with them."

ADDITIONAL CONTROLS

Wait, there's more?

"Live Pianist"

Create a more real and authentic performance by adding the sound of a “Live” player including gentle piano stool creaks, clothing foley and some subtle room ambience.

Transpitch

Create a darker, moodier sound, unachievable any other way. A powerful, but simple control which pitch shifts and transposes with just one click.

Untune

A really precise control which allows you to make the piano sound like it’s fallen out of tune. You can make it sound anywhere between a day and a decade out of tune.

Get started

With the endless range of possibilities in the instrument, we’ve created over 200 snapshot presets to get you somewhere good quickly. Arranged in a way to find a simple starting point that you can take in your own direction, or choose one of the more complex and interesting combinations you might not have thought about.

James Stretton

Euphonium, Tuba

This track was written and performed by the amazing Dolly Mavies. A song that showcases how the library can be used in more than just soundtracks. Behind Dolly’s beautiful vocals, all the sounds and instruments are from Novella Origin.

Behind the recording

Recorded at The Nave, one England’s finest recording studios; a converted church with the most beautiful sounding live room. Engineer Tom Orrell used a set of classic microphones and vintage outboard to tailor the perfect sound for the brass.

For the spot position, a single Brauner VMA Valve mic and RE20 mic does a great job of providing a very detailed, dry and hyped sound. Neumann KM184s capture a close stereo perspective; lively but still intimate. For the room position, we used a pair of AKG C414s, creating a more typical tree-style position and will give you a well balanced and open sound. Lastly, high up in the gallery were a pair of omnidirectional Oktava MK-12s. The secret weapon among engineers for their excellent detail, these will give you the full natural studio sound and allow you to hear the beautiful decay of The Nave.

We collected this really wide range of perspectives for you to mix exactly the sound you need. Everything was recorded through through Neve and API preamps, an AMEK Rembrandt desk and captured using world-class Apogee AD16X analogue to digital convertors.

A percussive way to play

We developed a way to play the piano which creates a unique percussive sound and wouldn’t be achievable playing live.

During sampling we dampened each of the metal tone bars by hand, which prevents them from vibrating and produces a very short round sound.

There are two variations and both are perfect for fast arpeggiated patterns in the style of Steve Reich and Nils Frahm.

Testimonial

“A very versatile, vintage sounding piano. It has, without doubt, a certain nostalgic character that will please modern composers, particularly those who are drawn to writing more intimate, Scandi styles of orchestral music.”
